David harvests and strips the Hedera - commonly known as ivy - an evergreen that represents “forever” - immortality, eternity, fidelity, and strong affectionate attachment in the same way it embraces a wall! It is hardy, thriving in even the most unpromising of environments.
David treats the woody stem with Danish oil (why Danish? It’s damp in Denmark, they know how to preserve wood) then sears it with decorative motifs and your choice of words.
