Mens Sana in Corpore Modo... a healthy mind in a trendy body!

Japanese calligraphy elegantly executed for us by Naoko Hoshino who kindly translated “From #SplendidIsolation to #EntenteCordiale “ into the historical equivalents in #Japan .

She writes: “Our policy of national isolation is called "Sak'O'ku 鎖国" from 1633-1853, most of Edo period (1603 -1868).
It’s image is literally isolation, being confined. Yes, rather negative.
Then we went into the term of "Bakumatu 幕末" in the last days of Edo period from 1853-1869. Its image is Nationalism, Modernisation, Transition. We can feel the strong, lively Dynamism. Yes, fairly positive!
It is difficult to translate the same word as your “Entente Cordiale”, however I offer "Kaikoku 開国" meaning, to “Open a country“, in 1853.

We look forward to borders being open again but in the meantime our minds are still free to meet.
